Consumer notice
Never pay to view a property
A licensed agent will not ask you for money simply to see a property. Be cautious if anyone asks for:
- Viewing or "registration" fees
- Cash or a deposit before a tour
- Payment to a personal account without proper paperwork
Protect yourself
- Check the agent's licence on the Real Estate Board's member search at reb.gov.jm.
- Ask for the agent's ID and the name of their brokerage.
- See the property in person before you commit to anything.
- Pay deposits only against a written agreement and an official receipt from the brokerage.
- Report suspected fraud to the Real Estate Board.
